Impact of the Iran-United States Negotiations Stalemate

KN, TEHRAN, The collapse of direct negotiations between Iran and the United States on April 12, 2026, sparked fears of a prolonged conflict. The domino effect could spread to Indonesia.

After the negotiations failed, the United States military began blockading access to the Strait of Hormuz on April 13, 2026. The announcement of the blockade was made directly by US President Donald Trump.

Before the US blockade, Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz had already caused anxiety in the Indonesian food and beverage industry. Plastic prices in Indonesia soared by 40-100 percent as of April 2026 due to disruptions in the supply of naphtha, a key plastic raw material, from the Middle East.

Plastic prices in Indonesia soared by 40-100 percent, and there was the potential for packaging raw material stocks to run out within a few months.
