KN. President Prabowo Subianto issued six directives on handling forest and land fires in Kalimantan and Sumatra, the KM Virgo Transport 8 passenger ship accident in the Java Sea, the search for five journalists in the Sunda Strait, and post-earthquake response in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
The directives include strengthening forest and land fire prevention through no-burn land management, providing equipment, and assisting communities, as well as strictly prohibiting regional regulations that allow land clearing by burning with a regional leader’s approval. “Take firm action against anyone proven to have carried out or failed to prevent forest and land burning.
According to National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo, more than 95 corporations have violated the rules,” Cabinet Secretary Lt. Col. Teddy Indra Wijaya said in a post on the Cabinet Secretariat’s Instagram account, cited Thursday.
The Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry reaffirmed that the country remains fully compliant with ASEAN protocols to mitigate forest and land fires, as transboundary haze continues to affect parts of Southeast Asia.
Ministry Spokesperson Vahd Nabyl A. Mulachela said that Indonesia has consistently adhered to ASEAN requirements since the bloc activated a Level 3 alert status on Aug. 26. Under this alert, member states submit daily reports detailing hotspot data, smoke trajectory projections and local emergency responses. “Indonesia fulfills this obligation through daily reports and various actions detailed according to the criteria of that alert level,” Nabyl said during a media briefing in Jakarta.
