KN. Prabowo believes that his close relationship with and political support from President Jokowi benefitted him in the 2024 presidential election, as public satisfaction with Jokowi’s government is high. Elected President Prabowo Subianto once again said that democracy is very tiring. Prabowo’s statement regarding the decline of democracy was revealed during an interview with Al Jazeera. Prabowo said that even though he adheres to a democratic system, corruption still occurs. “Democracy is messy. Democracy is tiring but it’s the best system of politics. What is the alternative?” said Prabowo.
Prabowo and Gibran headed to the Middle East to talk business with Qatari and United Arab Emirates counterparts, making it their first trip post-victory confirmation. Included on the pair’s itinerary is the Qatar Economic Forum, where Prabowo will speak. Outgoing President Jokowi is also scheduled to attend the forum.

PDI-P Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto said the party will object to any plan to get parliament to amend the law concerning the maximum number of ministries every Indonesian government can form. “The goal of forming every ministry is to achieve the objectives of the state, and not for accommodating to political forces,” said Mr Hasto.

Journalist organizations and members of the public have come out against a broadcasting bill they say would stifle the freedom of the press through vague and problematic provisions, including one they fear could curb investigative journalism on screen.
The bill was proposed in 2020 by lawmakers on House of Representatives Commission I overseeing communications and information, defense, intelligence and foreign affairs, and the draft was finalized in October of last year but was largely kept out of the public eye.
It resurfaced after coming under discussion at the House Legislation Body (Baleg) earlier this year. The Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) deemed the provision vague and confusing. A plan by the Indonesian government to offer dual citizenship to former citizens has been given a big thumbs-up by the diaspora, but far more details are needed to make this a reality, analysts and officials say.
This October, 45-year-old Kevin Wu will serve in the Jakarta House of Regional Representatives for the first time, becoming part of a minority of ethnic Chinese elected officials in the Indonesian legislative body. Wu has been a staunch advocate for Chinese-Indonesian rights since 2008 and helped to establish a Buddhist house of worship in the predominantly Muslim country. Now, he is an entrepreneur who advocates for small businesses. “If we witness injustice, we have two choices — to accept our fate or to strive and hope for change. I chose to do the latter,” he said.
Wu said he was inspired to fight for Chinese-Indonesian rights by late President Abdurrahman Wahid, who was known for his support for ethnic and religious tolerance.
After inspecting the Lacaria Central Market in North Kolaka Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, President Jokowi was still hesitant to disclose the names of candidates for Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) leadership.
He only mentioned a few criteria for the selection committee that would be appointed. “Yes, there are good figures, people with integrity who care about eradicating corruption. I believe there are many of them; we just have to choose them later,” Jokowi said.
Indonesia’s President-Elect Prabowo Subianto wants to boost defense ties with the UAE, his office said as he made the first official trip to Abu Dhabi since winning the general vote. Indonesia-UAE relations grew under incumbent Indonesian President Joko Widodo, who in 2021 secured an over $46 billion investment commitment from the Gulf state. A year later, the two countries signed a free trade deal, which came into force last September.
