Critical Mineral Production

KN-JAKARTA, Three industrial sectors are projected to significantly increase domestic demand for copper in Indonesia. Pri Agung Rakhmanto, Founder & Advisor of ReforMiner Institute, stated that these three sectors include infrastructure and electricity applications such as cables and transformers, solar power plants (PLTS) and wind power generation, as well as the automotive industry, particularly electric vehicles (EVs). According to him, this industrial ecosystem requires government support and facilitation in order to develop optimally. Greater investment ease in downstream copper-consuming sectors is also necessary to maximize copper production. Copper has become one of the most important raw materials for global industry today. Pri Agung believes Indonesia stands to gain substantial benefits from the utilization of this commodity.

Nickel rose to the highest price in almost two years, as reduced mining quotas in major producer Indonesia and a global sulfur shortage tighten the supply outlook for the battery metal. Futures in London have risen around 7 percent since the start of the Iran war, which is driving a surge in prices of sulfur — a key reagent used in processing. This has fueled concerns over disruptions to global mining, including mixed-hydroxide precipitate production in Indonesia and copper leaching in Africa.
