United States Sees Potential for Indonesia to Secure Investment

KN. The United States sees potential for Indonesia to pursue an infrastructure investment scheme similar to the Luzon Economic Corridor (LEC) in the Philippines through expanded cooperation involving the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) and Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

Speaking at a media briefing, U.S. Senior Advisor for the Bureau of Economic, Energy, and Business Affairs Ambassador Heather Variava said Washington remains open to developing similar economic corridors in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, with success depending on collaboration among the host government, U.S. government, and private sector.

MCC Acting Chief of Staff Dan Petrie said the MCC is implementing an Indonesia compact focused on energy infrastructure financing, while also seeking to improve regulatory and operational conditions to encourage broader private-sector investment.

USTDA Director Thomas Hardy highlighted the agency’s longstanding cooperation with Indonesia in energy, digital infrastructure, and critical minerals, noting that the country’s active private sector helps attract U.S. companies to the region. The inaugural LEC Investment Forum was held in Manila on September 10-11, bringing together about 600 investors, industry leaders, project developers, and government officials
