Board of Peace for Gaza

KN. Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang said that Indonesia’s participation in the Board of Peace for Gaza, an initiative proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, is aimed at ensuring that the reconstruction process in the Gaza Strip proceeds within a multilateral framework. She emphasized that the decision to join the Trump-formed body does not in any way change Indonesia’s principled position on Palestine. She explained that Indonesia’s participation in the Board of Peace is also intended to ensure that Gaza’s reconstruction remains oriented toward humanitarian interests and does not deviate from the two-state solution agreed upon by the international community.

Deputy Chairman of the House (DPR) Commission I Sukamta assessed that Indonesia’s participation in the Board of Peace initiated by the U.S. President Donald Trump could be an alternative diplomatic route for efforts to resolve the Palestinian conflict, especially the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. According to him, the formation of the Peace Council opens up new space for diplomatic maneuvers amidst the deadlock of various international forums in stopping the escalation of violence in Gaza.

Indonesian Middle East Alumni Network (JATTI) Chair Bachtiar Nasir delivered sharp criticism of the establishment of the Gaza Board of Peace initiated by U.S. President Donald Trump. He argued that the council is not an instrument of peace but rather a systematic effort to consolidate control over Gaza by cloaking it in the language of stability and reconstruction. He said that from the outset the initiative has been problematic because it positions the United States as the main actor holding political, legal, and security control over Gaza, while the Palestinian people are marginalized from the decision-making process.
