Import 1,000 Tons of Rice from United States

KN. House Commission IV member Johan Rosihan has raised concerns over the planned import of 1,000 tons of specialty rice from the United States amid claims that national rice stocks are sufficient, calling for greater government transparency over the policy. He said rising global energy prices and higher logistics costs due to geopolitical dynamics could increase the burden of imports, while inflated distribution costs could threaten domestic staple food price stability. He urged the government to prioritize purchasing local farmers’ harvests rather than expanding food imports, emphasizing that strengthening domestic production is key to safeguarding national food sovereignty.
