Indonesia’s External Debt Rises to $453.4 Billion in 2026 Second Quarter

KN. Bank Indonesia (BI) reported that Indonesia’s external debt rose 4.4 percent year-on-year to $453.4 billion in the second quarter of 2026, with the external debt-to-GDP ratio at 30.6 percent.

BI Communications Department Executive Director Ramdan Denny Prakoso said that government external debt stood at $216.3 billion in the second quarter of 2026, up 2.9 percent from the same period a year earlier, compared with 3.8 percent annual growth in the first quarter of 2026. The increase in government external debt primarily reflected inflows into government securities (SBN), indicating continued investor confidence in Indonesia’s economic outlook.

The House of Representatives (DPR) approved further discussions of the 2027 draft state budget. During the meeting, several House factions presented their views on the 2027 state budget draft. The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) faction highlighted the implementation of the free nutritious meal program, saying its IDR242 trillion budget allocation should be more targeted. It called for implementation to minimize various risks related to fiscal capacity, budget management, nutritious food governance, and the inclusion of beneficiary groups.
