KN. Security conditions in the Middle East have once again heated up following reports that a U.S. aircraft carrier has moved closer to Iranian territory. The two countries are now said to be on the brink of war, a development that could further inflame the global situation. Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Commission I member Oleh Soleh said that this uncertain global geopolitical situation must be taken seriously by the government, particularly the Foreign Affairs Ministry. He urged the ministry to remain on constant alert and to closely monitor developments between the two countries. The tensions could escalate at any time and have wide-ranging impacts, including on Indonesian citizens in the region. He also called on the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran to increase vigilance and preparedness.
Dian Wirengjurit, former Indonesian ambassador to Iran warned that a U.S. military strike on Iran would not only devastate Iran but also Israel and countries across the Middle East, citing Tehran’s advanced missile, drone and surveillance capabilities. Wirengjurit said Iran, despite heavy sanctions, has developed sophisticated conventional and hypersonic weapons that could threaten U.S. aircraft carriers and regional military bases, potentially igniting a wider conflict. He said any large-scale confrontation would destabilize the region, drive away foreign investment and sharply raise global oil prices, with ripple effects for countries like Indonesia. He noted that a full-scale war remains unlikely due to the high costs for all sides.
