KN. President Prabowo departed Jakarta for Vladivostok, Russia, on September 1 to attend the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who designated him as the forum’s main guest of honor.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said the invitation reflects Russia’s view of Indonesia as a key strategic partner in the Asia-Pacific, as well as an important ASEAN, Global South, and Muslim-majority country. Teddy said Prabowo will hold a bilateral meeting with Putin and use the visit to advance cooperation in trade, investment, energy, and other strategic sectors, marking his second time as an honorary guest after last year’s Saint Petersburg Economic Forum (SPIEF).
President Prabowo is accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Foreign Minister Sugiono, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto, Investment and Downstreaming Minister Rosan Roeslani, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni said the government remains on high alert for potential forest and land fires as Indonesia faces the peak of El Niño in September, including by intensifying weather modification operations across six priority provinces. The number of hotspots in Riau, South Sumatra, Jambi, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan declined toward the end of August, Antoni told a news conference in Jakarta. However, he emphasized that the government continues to anticipate the risk of forest and land fires.
