Regulatory Uncertainty Hinders Investment in Southeast Asia

KN. Regulatory uncertainty poses a major barrier to U.S. companies investing in Southeast Asia. Unpredictable rule changes, inadequate advance notice, limited consultation, and insufficient time to adapt add to the challenge, alongside U.S. tariff policies.

“The main thing companies want is predictable regulations. This is not something that specifically concerns only Indonesia. This is also a major issue in almost all of ASEAN,” said Brian McFeeters, president and CEO of the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council (USABC), in Jakarta.

USABC Indonesia Representative Nugraheni Widia Utami said regulatory certainty also affects ASEAN countries’ competition for U.S. investment.
