Results of the President’s Overseas Visit

KN-TOKYO, President Prabowo Subianto witnessed the announcement of ten memorandums of understanding (MoUs) on business cooperation between Indonesian and Japanese entrepreneurs in Tokyo, Japan, on Monday, March 30, 2026. The total value of the cooperation announced at the “Japan Indonesia Business Forum” reached US$22.6 billion, or approximately Rp 384.2 trillion.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that the announcements were made alternately by company representatives from both countries. “This moment symbolizes the commitment of the Indonesian and Japanese businesses,” he said in a written statement.

The MoU’s cover the development of clean energy downstream projects, oil and gas exploration and development, and strengthening the financial and investment ecosystem.

For example, the MoU on methanol production from Pupuk Kalimantan Timur, between PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur and PT Kaltim Methanol Industri. This was Prabowo’s second visit to Japan after his inauguration as President in October 2024.

On Saturday, October 20, 2025, Prabowo visited Osaka, Japan. There, the Gerindra Party Chairman inspected the Indonesian Pavilion at the 2025 Osaka Expo.

A week after Prabowo’s visit to the 2025 Osaka Expo, Teddy announced that Indonesia had received an investment commitment of US$23.8 billion (Rp 380 trillion). Teddy did not explain the origin of the commitment, but he did mention that he received the investment commitment from the Minister of National Development Planning, Rachmat Pambudy.

At the Indonesia-Japan business event, Prabowo also offered Japanese businesspeople investment in Indonesia. The former Defense Minister also stated that the Indonesian government currently has a long-term strategic partnership program and the establishment of a sovereign wealth fund. “We want rational management and best practices,” Prabowo said in a speech on Monday, March 30, 2026.

Besides Japan, Prabowo has also made several overseas visits that he claims have brought investment to Indonesia. For example, when Prabowo met with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in London, England, on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that Prabowo brought an investment commitment of around IDR 90 trillion.

Similarly, when Prabowo visited Washington, DC, United States, in mid-February 2026, he witnessed the ratification of 11 memorandums of understanding between Indonesian and American businesspeople totaling US$38.4 billion, or around IDR 651 trillion.

Prabowo, speaking to journalists and experts, claimed his trip abroad was safeguarded the interests of the people, such as creating jobs. Prabowo stated that his presence abroad was necessary to lobby and reach agreements with international partners. “In every relationship, there must be a bargaining position, and it must be from a position of strength,” he said on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
