KN. President Jokowi spoke about the upcoming cabinet meeting in the Nusantara capital city (IKN). According to Jokowi, the cabinet meeting will take place at the IKN if the facilities are ready. Water facilities have begun to be developed in IKN. Jokowi does not want to rush or force work to be completed quickly, as this may reduce quality.
The presidential secretariat has begun furnishing the new office in Nusantara, East Kalimantan, to accommodate President Jokowi, who intends to spend the last few months of his presidency in the future national capital. Presidential Secretariat Chief Heru Budi Hartono said the president is set to work from Nusantara starting July 28 and will start with the inauguration of a new toll road in the area. However, he did not divulge details on whether President Jokowi would continue to work at IKN or commute to Jakarta to run the government.
The Jakarta Post Editorial Board has written that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s administration may have done its best, but it is clear that the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) is not going to replace Jakarta as the country’s capital anytime soon. The plan to inaugurate Nusantara as the country’s new capital on Independence Day on Aug. 17 has been scrapped and replaced with a flag-hoisting ceremony, which President Jokowi and president-elect Prabowo Subianto are scheduled to attend along with a small group of guests. Vice President Ma’ruf Amin and vice president-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Jokowi’s son, will host the ceremonies in Jakarta.
This is all totally fine, except for Jokowi, who has desperately been trying to move the country’s capital to Nusantara before his term ends in October. We would like to remind the outgoing President, once again, that all the rush is not necessary.
President Jokowi is scheduled to visit the new capital city, Nusantara (IKN), in North Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan, on July 28. The first-ever cabinet meeting will then be held in IKN on July 30. The government continues to work on finalizing the development of the new capital ahead of Indonesia’s 79th Independence Day ceremony on August 17, 2024. Sources within the Palace and the National Capital Infrastructure Development Task Force confirmed the President’s visit and the planned cabinet meeting. However, specific details regarding the meeting are not yet available.
