Gaza’s ceasefire=Palestine’s freedom?

KN. U.S. President Donald Trump welcomed various world leaders attending the Gaza Peace Summit in the city of Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, on Monday, including Indonesian President Prabowo. “I see a tough man right here,” said Trump while pointing at Prabowo, who was walking toward him for a handshake and photo opportunity. U.S. President Donald Trump praised the role of Muslim-majority countries that helped realize peace between Israel and Palestine, including Indonesia. The praise came as Muslim nations involved in the effort announced a ceasefire agreement that took effect Friday local time. Trump said support from various parties in the Islamic world was key to achieving the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. “They were all truly remarkable. Indonesia is fantastic. The whole world has come together for this,” Trump said. He also expressed gratitude to the leaders of Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Turkey.

State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said that President Prabowo has ordered the Indonesian National Military (TNI) to prepare peacekeeping troops to be deployed to

Gaza, if the Gaza Peace Summit in Egypt on Monday produces constructive outcomes and the deployment is approved by the U.N. Security Council.

Indonesian President Prabowo asked U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday if he could meet with Trump’s son Eric, an executive vice-president of the Trump Organization, according to comments by the leaders picked up by a microphone after Trump had addressed a Gaza-focused summit in Egypt. Trump and Prabowo, who were also seen on video footage, appeared to be unaware that a live microphone was recording their conversation.

The Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry firmly said that President Prabowo will not make a visit to Israel after completing his agenda in Egypt, contrary to recent reports by Israeli media. It was previously reported by Israeli media on Monday that President Prabowo would visit Israel following his schedule in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono said that Prabowo will return directly to Indonesia after concluding his meetings in Egypt.

Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Deputy Speaker Eddy Soeparno said that President Prabowo’s trip to Egypt to attend the summit on peace in Gaza reflects his standing as a leader regarded as capable of making a positive contribution to conflict resolution. According to him, President Prabowo is seen as one of the global leaders, particularly from Asia, who can help stop the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza and bring an end to the ongoing war.

Through its official X account, the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry said that the Indonesian government welcomes the ceasefire in Gaza between Hamas and Israel. The government expressed appreciation for the mediation efforts by the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey. Indonesia also called for the immediate and full opening of humanitarian access to Gaza, emphasizing that this would allow Indonesia to participate in supporting the reconstruction process in the region.

Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Deputy Speaker Hidayat Nur Wahid (HNW) welcomed the approval of the first phase of the ceasefire proposal initiated by U.S. President Donald Trump and several Arab-Islamic leaders. He also called on Trump to ensure that Israel does not once again renege on the agreement. HNW expressed hope that the agreement would bring an end to the attacks and acts of genocide in Gaza, Palestine.

Syauki Hafiz, a member of the organizing committee for the “Indonesia Against Genocide” rally, said the event was initially intended to commemorate the third anniversary of Israel’s attack on Gaza.

However, with reports of a potential ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, the demonstration has shifted focus toward urging vigilance against renewed violence. “We want Indonesia to play an active role in ensuring that genocide does not happen again, that ceasefire violations are prevented, and that no more wars erupt in Gaza,” Syauki said in a written statement.
