BEM UI to Hold Protest at Bundaran HI, Bringing Eight Demands to “Reclaim Independence”

KN. The University of Indonesia Student Executive Board (BEM UI) is scheduled to hold a protest at Jakarta’s Bundaran HI on Tuesday, August 18, at 1 p.m., under the theme #MerebutKemerdekaan (“Reclaiming Independence”), a day after Indonesia’s Independence Day celebrations.

The students are voicing eight demands, including fighting corruption, implementing genuine agrarian reform, lowering food and fuel prices, reviewing national strategic projects, restoring regional autonomy, accelerating disaster recovery in Sumatra and Flores, and ending alleged repression and military and police intervention in civilian affairs.
