
KN. U.S. President Donald Trump said there will likely be an announcement concerning the situation in the besieged Gaza Strip within the next 24 hours. Trump declined to specify what the announcement would concern when asked but said it would be “as big as it gets.” He maintained, however, that it would be “very positive,” and could happen as soon as Thursday, the same time frame as the Gaza announcement he previewed.
Foreign Minister Sugiono received a courtesy call from the British Ambassador to Indonesia, Dominic Jermey in Jakarta. The two discussed strengthening strategic partnerships and multilateral cooperation, including the Palestine issue. Sugiono expressed hope that the UK can help create the atmosphere needed for Israel to comply with the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu said an expanded offensive against Palestinian militant group Hamas would be “intensive” after his security cabinet approved plans that may include seizing the Gaza Strip and controlling aid. U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff said Israel is a sovereign state that makes its own decisions, according to Axios, which also reported that he hopes for progress on a hostage and ceasefire deal before or during Trump’s visit to the Middle East next week.
Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono told the International Court of Justice (ICJ) yesterday that Israel has inflicted the “worst humanitarian disaster” in this century in the Gaza Strip, as public hearings on Israeli obligations continued for a third day. Speaking before the court, Sugiono said the court’s decision will serve as guidance to the U.N. General Assembly to preserve the Palestinian people’s rights, stressing that Israel must abide by international laws.
“Israel must accept the roles of international organizations, including UNRWA, and respect the immunity granted to the agency and its employees in the occupied territories,” he said, calling on Israel to take the necessary measures to provide basic services and humanitarian relief and to cease attacks and hostilities against Palestinians.
