KN. The U.S. Trade and Development Agency has awarded a grant to Indonesia’s Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) to support the development of an integrated command center for management of smart city infrastructure in Indonesia’s new capital city.
“USTDA is pleased to continue its partnership with OIKN to advance smart urban development and high-quality infrastructure that will increase sustainability and improve the quality of life in Indonesia’s new capital,” said USTDA Director Enoh T. Ebong. “U.S. companies and trusted technology partners can support this investment in critical digital infrastructure by delivering cutting-edge innovations.”
USTDA’s grant will co-fund the command center pilot along with contributions from U.S. technology companies, including Autodesk, Inc., Amazon Web Services, Inc., Cisco Systems, Inc., Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc., Honeywell International, Inc., IBM Corporation, and Motorola Solutions, Inc.
State Apparatus and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Abdullah Azwar Anas said that the transfer of civil servants to Indonesia’s new capital city Nusantara is awaiting the decision of the next government.
The Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority has set a tight deadline for completing the construction of government ministry buildings in the planned future capital city and has announced trials for larger aircraft at Nusantara airport. IKN Authority Chair Basuki Hadimuljono said the target was for the ministerial infrastructure to be up and running by the end of this month. As of early October, work on ministerial offices in the partially constructed city in East Kalimantan had reached 95 percent completion.
IKN Authority Acting Chair and Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono announced that private investment in the IKN had reached IDR58.4 trillion. According to him, this figure will continue to rise. He said that the investment value was calculated using eight series of groundbreakings in the IKN area over the last few years.
President-elect Prabowo Subianto plans to issue a presidential decree on the relocation of the nation’s capital from Jakarta to Nusantara after he takes office on Oct. 20, Gerindra politician Sufmi Dasco Ahmad confirmed. He stopped short of mentioning when the decree would be issued, however, saying only that Prabowo would sign it “at the right time”.

In an exclusive interview with Kompas, Maritime Affairs and Investment Coordinating Minister Luhut Pandjaitan discussed Indonesia’s new capital city Nusantara, the maritime axis, and key government development projects, including downstream industries, the energy transition, and family office plans.
Luhut expressed optimism about the sustainability of the new capital, stating that the government is prepared to proceed, with facilities such as residences for civil servants already in place. Regarding the energy transition, Luhut emphasized the need for caution. While the government recognizes the benefits of the energy transition — such as improved employment, the shift away from problematic fuels, and mitigating global warming — he noted that retiring coal power plants too early could disrupt Indonesia’s base load (minimum electricity needs) and hinder economic growth.
President Jokowi is scheduled to inaugurate the new state palace, Garuda Palace, and meet with several company CEOs in Indonesia’s future capital, Nusantara (IKN). “The inauguration will include a hospital, followed by meetings with CEOs. There will be no groundbreaking ceremony, but the State Palace will be inaugurated,” Jokowi said in Jakarta. Earlier, Rosan Roeslani announced that Jokowi would conduct another trial run at Nusantara Airport.
