KN. Economic Affairs Coordinating Minister Airlangga Hartarto conveyed the latest developments in the trade tariff negotiations between Indonesia and the United States. Airlangga said that the parties have completed discussions on the key issues within the framework of the Indonesia–U.S. reciprocal trade tariff negotiations and are now shifting their focus to drafting the technical details of the agreement. Teams from both countries are scheduled to meet in Washington, D.C., from January 12–19, to finalize the legal drafting stage of the agreement.
The Foreign Ministry has not received information about a meeting between President Prabowo and his United States counterpart Donald Trump, despite earlier government statements suggesting both leaders would meet to finalize the tariff agreement between the two countries. “The ministry has received no information on any efforts or plans for such a meeting at the end of this month, or the next month,” said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang during a press briefing in Jakarta. She added that the President was not scheduled to make any international visits in the coming weeks. Prabowo’s next high-level engagement will be with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese during the latter’s visit to Jakarta in February.
