U.S.-Iran Peace Agreement

KN. Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) and member of House Commission XII, Eddy Soeparno welcomed the peace agreement reached between the United States and Iran. Eddy expressed hope that improved relations between the two countries would contribute to lower fuel prices in Indonesia. He noted that the easing of tensions between Washington and Tehran could reduce the risk of broader regional conflict, including the potential escalation of hostilities involving Lebanon. According to Eddy, greater geopolitical stability could help ease pressure on global energy markets and support more stable fuel prices.

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said that a peace agreement could benefit Indonesia’s State Budget, particularly by reducing pressure on energy subsidies. If geopolitical tensions continue to ease and energy prices remain stable, subsidy spending could decline. He said lower subsidy costs would create additional fiscal space for the government’s priority programs.

Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Foreign Relations and International Cooperation Chair Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim said that the agreement could help end tensions in the Middle East and pave the way for broader regional peace, including by supporting the aspirations of the Palestinian people.
