KN. The final agreement on trade tariff negotiations with the United States has been delayed from the initial target set at the end of January. State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said that the negotiation will be completed in the second week of February, according to the last update from the Economic Affairs Coordinating Minister. According to Prasetyo, the delay occurred because both countries are still looking for common ground.
Economic Affairs Coordinating Minister Airlangga Hartarto said that the delay in the finalization of the U.S. tariff policy until mid-February 2026 was purely due to scheduling factors, not due to obstacles in the negotiation process. He emphasized that there were no substantive issues hindering the process, either from a technical or geopolitical standpoint. When asked whether the tariff policy document would be signed by President Prabowo, Airlangga reiterated that the government was still waiting for the right time according to the schedule.
A trade agreement being discussed between the United States and Indonesia could lead to a massive expansion in bilateral trade between the two countries, the head of Indonesia’s chamber of commerce told Reuters. The agreement, which could be completed next month, could increase trade between the U.S and southeast Asia’s largest economy four-fold from the current level of around $40 billion per year, Anindya Bakrie, Chairman of Kadin, said in an interview at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
